Specifically, the best version? With a warranty? Because once again, CarMax has a 507 Edition in stock and doesn’t seem to realize it. This time, it’s a coupe.

Yeah, when shopping for the E550, I came to realize that Carmax’s listings were about 50/50 in listing the option packages correctly. And for the most part, the listings were missing features that the car *did* have.

How is that price though?  The Carmax premium may offset whatever they missed in pricing out the wrong car.

For a top of the line C-Class AMG car, I expect to see a nice interior uninterrupted by whatever plasticky looking crap this is:

Kinja'd!!!

But no. It’s just the same shit you get in the entire C-Class line up.

Nice, though I think it looks better as a sedan like yours.

On a side note...

Kinja'd!!!

At first I was shocked. But looking closer: You can finance title, tax, etc. and lump it together with the loan? Do people actually do this?! Paying interest on sales tax and title ?!?!

Sort of--I think most people would figure that’s what a big chunk of the down payment is going to. WA’s high tax and registration probably mean a lot of people end up paying interest on them.

For those moments when you have a $10k down payment but can’t afford to pay the doc fees....wait, what?

Hard to know since this trim package is fairly hard to find, but I think it’s pretty good especially given the low mileage. Would certainly be high for a “base” C63, which is what they seem to think it is. Frankly, as far as I’m concerned the CarMax premium is worth it for all the other conveniences—no haggling and no pressure , shopping and sh ipping from throughout their network, available warranty on everything they sell, etc. Really puts the usual dealer experience to shame, at least on the sales side.

Shows what I know (haven’t financed a car yet). I would figure people would just pay the fees and taxes at time of sale, and the loan would only be what’s owed on the vehicle. What that says to me is that there is someone, somewhere, out there financing $23,000 on a $20,000 car...

You know the top of the line for luxury purposes is an S-class, right? This is a C-class with go-fast mechanicals . All they do to the interior is put in (much) more supportive seats and sporty trim . Are you not familiar with what AMG and M cars are? Part of the appeal is that it’s a relatively normal car that’s been tuned and fettled for performance.

Anyway, i t’s better than the equivalent BMW’s interior plastics , at least. And light years better than the stuff in the CLA and GLA, in case that’s what you’re thinking of. Yuck.

Probably about 50% of what it cost new. Depreciation!

At least for me, I would think of it more as putting down 10-15% plus the taxes and fees, not as putting down 20% and financing them. But I guess that’s kind of six of one, half a dozen of the other.

In the last two years I have looked at a lot of purchase and loan documents belonging to people who are not me, and I can confirm that a lot of people are out there doing exactly this, if not also rolling over debt from their trade-in, and doing it all at interest rates I usually associate with credit cards. It’s terrifying.

...yes?  Every car deal I’ve ever been a part of (either as a buyer or a friend of the buyer) has tax and tags added into the loan. Maybe the down payment was enough to cover it, maybe not, but the bottom line never had tax pulled out and paid separately.

CarMax is the way to go for cars like this where having an upstanding dealer willing to back their warranties is worth it.

The best part of the CarMax warranty is that you can do the service anywhere, so they’ll cover repairs on an AMG at a Merc dealer with AMG-certified techs.

Given the specialish nature and limited numbers I would be surprised the average CarMax would even look twice at a car like this when it comes to service. They might have some old Mercedes techs running around out back but what are the chances they have an AMG certified guy that jumped ship? They would probably ask you to go to Mercedes themselves lol

Some dealers have gone to a similar used car pricing strategy, the problem is customers still want to haggle or assume that theres 5k markup in the cheapest car in the area.

Yeah, we bought a certified used Volvo from a dealer chain with no-haggle pricing on used cars last year . It wasn’t the very cheapest in the area but it was quite reasonable and so much easier. They did give us the hard sell on all the extras in the finance office, though.
